German Grammar Research Group

Research

The German Grammar Research Group looks at German and related languages from a variety of perspectives. We are interested in the different phenomena from the levels of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, as well as their interfaces. One object of our research is the creative use of grammar and grammatical structures by speakers in a variety of communication situations.

Our main research interests are on:

  • Empirical grammar research on morpho-syntax and information structure
  • Methodological basic research for the development of empirical methods as well as methodological reflection
  • Grammatical modelling and theory development for German and other comparatively relevant languages
