Folgende Fachdisziplinen sind im Department vertreten:

Allgemeine Linguistik

Social Linguistics explore language in cultural and social context. Language development, language change, language variation, and language mobility in cultural contact zones, along migratory patterns, and in intermedia forms are major points of interest. The emphasis lies on the interdependence of language development and shifting historical, social, and cultural contexts.

The CIAS Linguistic group investigates cooperative processes of identity construction in situations of social change. Using the example of migrants, we investigate communities of practice (Wenger 1998) in weblogs around the theme of migration. These virtual communities interactively negotiate new identities and mutually confirm them. It is precisely the participation in such interactions that enables the propagation and the joint construction of a multitude of partial, temporary and local (partial) identities that transcend traditional ethnic, regional and national boundaries. Our project focuses in particular on the linguistic procedures and communicative strategies used in these construction processes.

Allgemeine und vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft

Die Bielefelder Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft betrachtet Literatur auf breiter theoretischer Grundlage,  erforscht ihre Entstehungs-, Rezeptions, Transfer- und Transformations­bedingungen, setzt verschiedene Sprach- und Kultursphären zueinander in Beziehung und untersucht das Wechselspiel der Literatur mit anderen Künsten und Medien.

 

Anglistik/Amerikanistik

Anglophone Studies draw on cultural theory to analyze texts in context. Texts include literature, life writing, and other media. Cultural studies paradigms provide the matrix to study interrelations between text production, text reception and the larger social world; how texts shape our world and our ways of thinking and how texts reflect our changing world are guiding questions.

British, American, African and Caribbean diasporic texts represent a rich spectrum of national and transnational cultural and literary production for specific case studies.

DaF/DaZ

DAF "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" dedicates itself to the practice and study of teaching of German as a foreign language in different cultural contact zones. Research emphasis lies on language, the teaching of language, and language transfer as cultural processes within an increasingly globalizing world with multiple and conflictive cultural contact zones.

Germanistik

Interamerikanistik

InterAmerican Studies study texts and cultures in context by building on postcolonial, decolonial, gender, hermeneutic theories among others. Transcultural, transnational, and intercultural paradigms build the basis to explore cultural production, cultural mobility, and the representations of cultural and social contact and conflict zones in the Americas in diachronic and synchronic fashion.

Kunst- und Musikpädagogik

Studienfach Kunst und Musik

Im Fokus des Studienfachs stehen interdisziplinäre Bezüge zwischen Kunst und Musik sowie weiteren Disziplinen wie Theater, Film, Performance oder Literatur. Die kulturwissenschaftliche Perspektive wird dabei durch die Reflexion kultureller Produktionen, Prozesse und Kontexte sowie darauf bezogener Vermittlungsformate und -strategien ergänzt. Die empirische Erforschung kultureller Bildungsprozesse, Praxis-Theorie-Transfers sowie die Erprobung explorativer künstlerischer Praktiken bilden den Kern der methodischen Ausrichtung.

Kunst
Im Fach Kunst stehen Prozesse von Kunstproduktion und -rezeption, von Exploration, Transfer und Transformation im Fokus theoretischer und kunstpraktischer Auseinandersetzung. Ein besonderes Interesse gilt den Wechselbeziehungen zwischen den Künsten und Fragen differenzsensibler und kanonreflexiver Kunstvermittlung.

Musik
Das Bielefelder Fach Musik betrachtet Musik auf breiter theoretischer Grundlage, erforscht ihre Entstehungs-, Rezeptions-, Transfer-, Produktions-, und Transformationsbedingungen, setzt verschiedene Produktions-, Rezeptions- und Performancekontexte zueinander in Beziehung und nimmt Einflüsse anderer Künste und Medien auf Musik in den Blick.

Kulturvermittlung
Die Kulturvermittlung untersucht die Schnittstelle von Praxis und Theorie, künstlerischer und kulturell-pädagogischer Vermittlung und der Wissenschaften. Ihr Interesse gilt dem Zusammenspiel von Ästhetisierung, Performativität/ Performance und der (Re)Produktion von Wissen und Machtstrukturen unter Berücksichtigung historisch-gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse und -potenziale. Dabei ist sie interdisziplinär angelegt, rezeptions- und anwendungsorientiert (Transferprozesse).

Interdisziplinäre Medienwissenschaft

Die ‚Interdisziplinäre Medienwissenschaft‘ verbindet Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft, Soziologie, Erziehungswissenschaft und Informatik. Dadurch werden Medien aus vier Disziplinen heraus betrachtet, aber Medien auch selbst produziert. Dies führt zu einer gegenseitigen Ergänzung von Theorie, Reflektion und Praxis. Die Besonderheit liegt in der Integration von geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Kompetenzen und den Bildverarbeitungs- und Texttechnologien. Damit werden die vielfältigen medienwissenschaftlichen Expertisen und Potentiale der Universität Bielefeld vereint und der Gegenstandsbereich ‚Medien und Kommunikation’ in seiner gesamten Breite abgedeckt.

Lateinamerikanistik

Latinistik

The study of Latin explores language as a quintessential medium to provide philosophical ideas, political rhetoric, and social commentary. The study of Latin includes the exploration of important links of language to ancient cultures, history, philosophy, and urban studies. It also explores the contemporary presence of Latin in new media, popular culture and Latin as a medium to reflect on contemporary cultural developments.

Romanistik

Romance Studies draw on cultural theory to analyze texts in context. Texts include literature, film and new media in French and Spanish in particular. Romance Studies have a focus on European cultures including diasporic cultures in Latin America and Canada. Cultural studies paradigms provide the matrix to study interrelations between text production, text reception, and the larger social world in a diachronic and synchronic fashion.
