On this page, students of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies can find information about a possible semester abroad outside the Erasmus+ programme. There are various possibilities at our faculty for stays abroad at cooperating universities. As a rule, individual arrangements with the coordinators and the International Office of our university are necessary. The application periods are individual, sometimes there are no fixed deadlines.
At the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies there are various cooperation programmes through which students can go abroad. These usually have fixed application periods and requirements. For more information, please contact the respective coordinators.
In addition, there is the possibility of a stay at a partner university outside of a cooperation agreement.
Students of the Masterprogram Literary Studies can participate in our double degree programme with the Università di Roma. More information on this can be found here.
Students of the Master InterAmerican Studies can participate in our Double Degree Programme with the Universidad de Guadalajara. More information on this can be found here.
The ISAP programme enables three students to spend time at universities in Guadelajara and La Plata.
The cooperation with the Universidad Guadelajara is open to students of the Master InterAmerican Studies, and is supervised by Dr. Diana Fulger.
The cooperation with the Universidad Nacional de La Plata is primarily aimed at students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Spanish and the Master's degree programme in InterAmerican Studies. However, it is also open to all other students of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies who can prove that they have at least a B1 level of Spanish. The cooperation is supervised by Prof. Dr. Kirsten Kramer.

The ISEP programme is only open to students of English Studies who have completed at least two semesters, have a personal interest in the USA and have a "good" academic record. This includes all study programme variants of English Studies.
With the ISEP programme, students can study under a J1 visa for five months (always: August - December) at a university or college in the USA. For more information, Dr Julia Andres can be contacted.

Switzerland is not a country in which stays abroad can take place via the Erasmus+ programme, instead there is the Swiss-European Mobility Programme. The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies has cooperations with various partner universities in Switzerland within the framework of the programme, details of which can be found below in the overview of our partner universities.
In addition to the cooperations for the Erasmus+ Programme, the faculty maintains a large number of cooperations worldwide. More information can be found below.
This part of our homepage is still under construction. If you have any questions, please contact the International Office directly.

In addition to the scholarships that are awarded within the framework of some cooperation programmes, there are also many other ways to finance a stay abroad.
At Bielefeld University, for example, scholarships are awarded through the International Office, further scholarships are available through the DAAD. It is also advisable to inform yourself about scholarships for your stay abroad. There is also the possibility of applying for BAföG abroad, which is not linked to the entitlement to BAföG in Germany.
In addition, students can take out an educational loan, and in some cases students have also been able to attract sponsors from the business world to finance their stay.
Students who would like to spend a period abroad at a university with which there is no partnership can do so as so-called free movers. However, there are some points to consider here, so we recommend contacting the International Office for advice.
Either by e-mail to auslandsaufenthalt@uni-bielefeld.de or at the International Info Point in the University Hall.
Students can gain practical teaching experience at a school or university abroad for six to eleven months as a foreign language assistant. The internship abroad is supported by a scholarship. More information can be found here.
Student teachers can apply for an 8 to 16-week internship in one of 40 countries. Before, during, and after their internship, students are supported through a combination of classroom seminars and digital offerings. They receive personal support from the SCHULWÄRTS! team at the Goethe-Institut headquarters, the contact persons at the Goethe-Institut abroad, and a supervising teacher at the school. A scholarship is available for the internship. More information can be found here.
The Pädagogische Austauschdienst of the Kultusministerkonferenzalso offers many other programs that can enable a stay abroad. More information can be found here.
Prospective teachers can receive scholarships for a school internship in France through the Deutsch Französisches Jugendwerk. More information can be found here.
