AG 12 Biostatistics and Medical Biometry

Biostatistics and medical biometry are of central importance for the life sciences and medical research. It covers a wide range of tasks with different fields of application, especially in medicine and epidemiology. In general, biostatistics and medical biometry deals with a wide range of issues and plays an important role in health research. In the context of epidemiology, various factors and influences on the spread of diseases are investigated.  For this purpose, statistical models are developed to determine and predict epidemiological measures such as prevalence, incidence and mortality of diseases.

The work of the interdisciplinary working group is mostly carried out in cooperation with external research institutions, hospitals, physicians and other scientists.

The statistical models we investigate are mainly applied in the life sciences, but also in other fields. In this context, the research of the Biostatistics and Medical Biometry team is concerned with the following areas:

  • Development of statistical methods for meta-analyses,
  • Modelling of disease dynamics,
  • Development and application of new approaches for survival analysis.

In addition, we provide extensive statistical consulting services to support other research projects.
