Getting Access

Who can apply

If you are a researcher or student at Bielefeld University or are collaborating with a researcher at Bielefeld University you can apply for computing time on our GPU Cluster.

Please note that the hardware of our cluster is rather specific. Each compute note is equipped with eight Nvidia V100 GPUs which deliver the majority of the computational power. If your code is not able to use GPU's please consider applying for computing time elsewhere. We will be happy to help you with your applications, e.g. at participating Tier-2 centern in HPC.NRW.

However, in some limited cases we can also support small CPU projects.

How to apply

We will require a short summary of your project (0.5 to 1 pages), including a description of the code you plan to use and an estimate of the required compute resources. If you are unsure about these points you can contact us for help at gpucluster@physik.uni-bielefeld.de. We will need to judge whether your project is of scientific nature and if the resources can be provided. A typical project we can support will require 10,000 to 40,000 GPU-h compute time.

We will further require a support letter from your group leader.

After you got access

After you got access to our cluster, you can register at our redmine system, which contains a wiki section on the login procedure, the operational and queuing system. Via redmine you can also open an issue to report problems or inquire on specific software.
