Award-Winning Glasses Help with Building and Baking Project from CITEC researchers wins prize in "Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" competition

Today, 4 June 2018, researchers at the Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) at Bielefeld University and their cooperation partners were awarded a prize for their intelligent glasses (Adamaas system) in Berlin. An independent jury selected the Bielefeld submission from among 100 submissions from approximately 1,500 applications submitted to the nationwide innovation competition "Ausgezeichnete Orte im Land der Ideen" ("Landmarks in the Land of Ideas"). On the topic of "Connecting Worlds - Strengthening Unity", the project puts forth an answer to the question of how intelligent technology can provide assistance to elderly people as well as individuals with cognitive disabilities. This is already the second success for researchers from the Cluster of Excellence in this competition.

Project ADAMAAS presented at BMBF-funded network meeting

On April 26th and 27th the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) organized a network meeting at Siegburg concerning the expiring funding line "Adaptive, Learning Systems". Alongside 11 other research projects from Germany, the intelligent glasses ADAMAAS co-developed by researchers from Bielefeld University's Neurocognition and Action (NCA) group have been presented to ministerial representatives, fellow scientists, and the press.

NCA researcher Benjamin Strenge gave a talk about how the ADAMAAS smartglasses provide individualized assistance to people with and without disabilities in activities of daily life as well as in industrial assembly processes. An additional live demonstration of the system by NCA's Oleg Strogan and CITEC researcher Patrick Renner illustrated the use of human memory analysis, Augmented Reality and physiological measurements in user-adaptive task assistance.

ADAMAAS was funded by the BMBF from May 2015 to April 2018. Further information is available [here].

On 23.01.2018 Matthias Novak, the junior and creative coach of FC Bayern Munich, visited the Neurocognition and Action group.

It exists a long-standing cooperation in the development of new diagnostic and training methods for an optimal interaction of brain and motor coordination in high-performance football. Of particular interest is the question, how special exercises in technical training can also promote working memory and motoric creativity on the pitch.

Matthias Nowack is, together with Jörg Seewald, author of the book "Beweg Dein Gehirn" (2017), which also contains an interview with Prof. Dr. Thomas Schack.
