Project: SP 07
Project duration: 04/2014 - 10/2018
Project funding: 107.640 Euro
This project's main purpose is to provide a better understanding of the (neuro)functional relationship of cognitive functions (memory and attention) and action and action flexibility (ability to adapt movements) in self-executed, observed and imagined movements. In natural environments goal-directed actions are rarely executed in isolation. Rather they are performed under high situational demands that require a complex network of cognitive operations. The goal of this project is to clarify the functional relationship of attention, working memory (WM) and their underlying neurophysiological bases (electroencephalography, EEG) during the planning and execution of manual actions. Although the concepts of attention, WM and movement sub phases (planning & execution) have been studied extensively in isolation, little is known about the functional interdependencies among (e.g. Spiegel et al., 2012) them and their neurophysiological correlates.
