I am a professor of data science at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Bielefeld University. As part of a cooperation with the Helmholtz Zentrum München, I also lead the Biostatistics group at the Institute of Computational Biology and the Core Facility Statistical Consulting.

Research projects and funding at Bielefeld University are described on the pages of the Data Science Group. For information about my activities in Munich, please visit my webpage at the Helmholtz Zentrum München.

Research Interests

  • Stochastic modelling and statistical inference of dynamic processes in genetics and molecular biology, in particular diffusion processes / stochastic differential equations
  • Uncertainty quantification
  • Analysis of single-cell regulatory heterogeneities (StochasticProfiling Project; see also Research Features article)
  • Integration of genomic, transcriptomic and clinical/environmental data
  • Computer-intensive methods and Bayesian statistics
