Bielefeld Campus
The Bielefeld campus offers space for further research institutes and research and development centres and will be one of the most modern university locations in Germany in the future. In the vicinity of the university and the university of applied sciences, a lively urban quarter is developing with connecting green spaces where people from all over the world live and work. It is not only the universities that will benefit from a new campus. For the city of Bielefeld and the entire region of East Westphalia-Lippe, it brings a plus in competence and liveliness.
Construction Project
Three construction projects have already been completed. The new building of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences on Campus North gives the university a distinctive face. The CITEC building (formerly the "Cognitive Interaction Technology" CITEC research building) on the North Campus was completed at the end of 2013. Building X (formerly the new replacement building) on the current university campus, the South Campus, has been available since mid-2014. A joint canteen of the Studierendenwerk Bielefeld for the University and the University of Applied Sciences is integrated into this building.
Campus Naming Concept
Anyone who wants to get to the Bielefeld campus must follow the path of "experience", then walk along the "educational corridor", then cross the "incursion" and then enter the university. With terms from the world of science, the expanded Bielefeld Campus has been given a character that is unique in Germany. Leibniz Prize winner Professor Dr. Martin Carrier from the Department of Philosophy at Bielefeld University and members of a "creative team" from his faculty have developed this unusual idea into a comprehensive overall concept.
