Committees
The StuPa can form commissions and committees to fulfil its tasks (Art. 6 of the statutes of the student body). In some cases, such as the Haushaltsausschuss (§ 54 II Hochschulgesetz NRW, Art. 6 I, 39 of the statutes), it is obliged to do so.
There are also university committees where the StuPa is required to nominate or elect student representatives.
These committees are important in order to be able to influence decisions that affect the entire university community. Unfortunately, student representatives are underrepresented in many university committees.
If you would like to get involved in one of these committees, please write to the StuPa chair and ask if there are any places available! In the invitation to the next meeting you will also find out whether nominations or elections are on the agenda. You can also ask the current committee representatives for information about the committees. We look forward to seeing you!
Committees of the StuPa and the student body
- Ältestenrat
Der Ältestenrat (Art. 19 of the statues)
The Ältestenrat is appointed for one year at the constituent meeting of the StuPa. Each list represented in the StuPa can nominate a representative. It is the independent, dispute-settling and advisory body of the student body. It can comment on the interpretation of the statutes and on regulations passed by the StuPa; it decides on election disputes and is the election review body for the elections of ISR spokespersons. Any student at Bielefeld University can appeal to it. However, its practical significance in the "constitutional reality" of the student body is rather limited.

Der Haushaltsausschuss (§ 54 II Hochschulgesetz NRW, Art. 37 of the statues)
The StuPa appoints the Haushaltsausschuss at its constituent meeting. Like all StuPa committees, it is appointed on a d'Hondt basis. Its members may not be members of the AStA.
According to the statutes, it is responsible for monitoring the AStA in all matters of budget and economic management. Ten weeks before the start of a financial year (currently the calendar year), the committee must be presented with the draft budget, which it discusses and comments on in detail. The members are authorised to submit special votes on individual estimates or on the budget as a whole. On this basis, the StuPa discusses and decides on the individual budget estimates. Die Wahlkommission
The StuPa appoints an election commission to prepare, organise and monitor StuPa elections. The procedure is governed by the election regulations (amendment to the election regulations of 1 April 2021). Each list elected to the StuPa nominates a member of the election commission and a deputy. If a list does not nominate a candidate, the number of members is reduced accordingly.
The election commission elects the election officer and a deputy from among its members. The election officer ensures the technical preparation and realisation of the election in coordination with the university administration and carries out the resolutions of the election commission.- Wahlprüfungsausschuss

- Kommission für Finanzangelegenheiten und Ressourcen
The Kommission für Finanzangelegenheiten und Ressourcen (FiKo) advises the Senate and the Board of Rectors on the internal distribution of funds allocated to Bielefeld University by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

- Kommission für Universitätsentwicklung
The Universitätsentwicklungskommission (UEKo) advises the Senate and the Rectorate on university development tasks such as structure, information technology, planning and construction matters, and international affairs.

- Kommission für Forschung und wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs
The Kommission für Forschung und wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs (FoKo) advises the Senate and Rectorate on the planning and funding of research activities for the qualification and career development of young researchers.

The Lehrkommission (LeKo) advises the Senate and Rectorate on the certification and (further) development of degree programmes.

- Zentrale Gleichstellungskommisson
The Gleichstellungskommission (GleiKo) advises on equality issues at the university (unfortunately only equality between men and women) and reviews compliance with and updating of the framework plan for equality.

- Bibliothekskommission
The Bibliothekskommission (BibKo) decides on new acquisitions or reductions in the library's stock of literature.

- Qualitätsverbesserungskommision
The Qualitätsverbesserungskommission (QueKo) advises the rectorate on quality improvement.

- Kuratorium of the Universitätsgesellschaft
The Universitätsgesellschaft is an association for the promotion of research and teaching at Bielefeld University. It awards prizes (Karl Peter Grotemeyer Prize, dissertation prizes, Jörg Schwarzbich Inventor Award) and scholarships, and supports students, e.g. with cultural projects. The student members of the Karl Peter Grotemeyer Prize jury are also appointed by the StuPa.
- Administrative Board of the Studierendenwerk
The Administrative Board is the supervisory and control body of Studierendenwerk Bielefeld. It discusses, for example, the business plan, the prices of the university canteen and the construction of new halls of residence.
