The Medical School EWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the earliest possible date a

Professorship for Digital Medicine (W2 TT W3 / W3)

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe, with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases".  For more information, please visit

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international research profile (W2 TT W3) respectively with an already established national and international profile (W3) who can represent the field of expertise in research and teaching in its entirety.

The prerequisites are

  • university degree of medical studies and licence to practice medicine
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well (W2 TT W3) respectively high-ranking (W3) scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • the special ability and willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation
  • innovative research achievements in the field of digitalization in medicine
  • the competence to represent the digital transformation in the medical sector in its breadth relevant to medical education
  • knowledge and experience in the fields of medical informatics, telemedicine, digital health applications (DIGA), data security, and interoperability
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL
  • extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists.

Desirable are

  • completed specialist qualification
  • relevant experience in health care or the health care industry
  • experience in the analysis of complex and big data and the design and implementation of inpatient and mobile applications in healthcare and related fields.

As position holder you are involved in the design of medical processes in the digital age, which includes the development, implementation, and evaluation of digital technologies and services in medicine in all care sectors and their intersectoral networking. A particular focus is on conveying profession-specific digital skills at all levels of medical education, training, and continuing education. You are responsible for developing and evaluating forward-looking teaching concepts and content, especially considering requirements for medical teaching within the digital transformation in medicine and initiating their longitudinal implementation in the model course of study. In addition, you will establish national and international research collaborations within digitalization and medicine and form a bridge in the field of digital medicine in clinical and non- clinical healthcare.

We expect you to work closely with the clinical departments of the University Medical Center EWL and the practicing physicians in the region within the overall concept of the faculty. Furthermore, you are committed to profile-building joint projects of the Medical School EWL, but also of other faculties of Bielefeld University, especially in the field of informatics and data science, but also in health sciences. The Medical School EWL also expects you to provide important impulses for the scientific use of data networking from research and care, as well as a strong willingness to address age-, gender-, and diversity-related issues to improve care practices.

The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG. The teaching load basically comprises 9 LVS in accordance with § 3 Para. 1 No. 1 LVV.

The W2 tenure variant is initially limited to five years but designed with a tenure-track option after W3. The removal of the time limit follows within a positive evaluation based on a target agreement.
