The Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science at Bielefeld University seeks to appoint the following position as soon as possible:

Professor (W2) of General Psychology (Cognitive and Experimental)

The Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science of Bielefeld University stands for a pronounced research orientation and a committed teaching style. The Department of Psychology covers all areas of the field and unites natural science and social science research traditions. Teaching in the areas of General, Experimental and Cognitive Psychology focuses on the BSc programs “Psychology and Psychotherapy” and the MSc program “Experimental Psychology and Neuroscience” as well as contributions to the MSc “Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy”. Sharpening of the research profile as well as extending existing and establishing novel faculty internal and faculty transcending research collaborations is a key goal of the Department. 

The holder of the professorship should cover the areas of General, Experimental, and Cognitive Psychology in research and teaching. Expertise in computational modelling of behavioural and neural data is especially desirable. Her or his profile should be documented by internationally visible empirical research with experimental and/or computational methods and documented third-party funding. We expect contributions to the development of the university’s Core Facility “Neuroimaging”. The faculty appreciates activities in the areas of Open Science and Reproducibility and is committed to diversity and gender equality.

It is further expected that the position holder will actively participate in research initiatives within at least of one two relevant interdisciplinary university-wide strategic research areas, namely “The socio-technical world: Interactive Intelligent Systems” and “The Changing World: Social Systems, Individualisation, and Uncertainty”. Such contributions could be made for instance within Bielefeld University’s Center for Cognitive Interaction Technology „CITEC“ (www.uni-bielefeld.de/zwe/citec/) or the Joint Institute for Individualisation in a Changing Environment (JICE).

We expect the successful applicant to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, promotion of junior scientists, and administrative duties and show strong commitment to teaching with due respect to diversity and equal opportunity issues.

According to § 36 HG NRW, the requirements for appointment are a completed university degree in a relevant subject, the special aptitude for academic work, which is demonstrated by the quality of the doctorate, pedagogical aptitude, which is demonstrated by a corresponding example or is exceptionally determined in the appointment procedure, as well as additional academic achievements, which are exclusively and comprehensively evaluated in the appointment procedure.

Applicants for whom German is not a first language should be able to teach courses in German, in addition to courses in English, within about two years of hiring.
