Professorship for Visceral Tumor Surgery (W2)

at the earliest possible date. Thereby associated is the position as chief senior physician at the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at CBB.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe (UMC EWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

• specialist qualification for visceral surgery and sub-specialization for special visceral surgery
• relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
• very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
• broad clinical experience in the field of expertise and leadership experience
• many years of broad clinical experience in colorectal surgery
• experience in planning, managing and conducting clinical oncology studies
• connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
• extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
• experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable:

• experience in the coordination of a certified colorectal cancer center
• experience in the hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery
• experience in robotic surgery

As the holder of this position, you will represent and academically develop the clinical focus of surgery of visceral tumors of the lower gastrointestinal tract and ideally of the hepato-pancreato- biliary system. Furthermore, the willingness to cooperate closely with the colorectal cancer center of the Center for Visceral Medicine Bielefeld (https://evkb.de/kliniken-zentren/zentren/bauchzentrum/) at EvKB is expected. Here, the primarily minimally invasive therapy approach is routine for you, especially in colorectal surgery. You will also use an interdisciplinary, interprofessional and intersectoral approach to further develop the visceral medicine focus of the department’s tumor surgery. The research focus of the professorship will include clinical- experimental studies on visceral tumors including their surgical techniques and, in perspective, the evaluation of the microbiome’s function in the healthy organism and its role for disease development and therapeutic options.

Networking with the other clinics of the University Medical Center OWL, with other faculties of Bielefeld University and with the medical community in private practice in the region is also expected. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
