The Faculty of Biology at Bielefeld University has a vacancy for a

W2-Professorship for Biology Didactics - Talent Research

to be filled at the earliest opportunity.

The Faculty of Biology is looking for an experienced and distinguished scientists to represent biology didactics with a research focus on “exceptionally talented persons in science”, and to contribute to the professionalisation of teacher training. The continuation of the teutolabs biology and biotechnology is expected. The Faculty of Biology greatly values the quality of teaching and guidance of students.

We expect:

  • state exam(ination) for secondary level 1 and 2 as well as relevant school teaching experience
  • ability and engagement to provide theory-based and practice-oriented teaching with reference to modern methodology in biology
  • relevant, internationally visible research output in the field of biology didactics and the promotion of scientific talent
  • experience in acquiring third-party funding (national BMBF and international ERDF)
  • experience in setting up and management of teaching-learning laboratories
  • experience in supporting practical semesters
  • a concrete concept for teaching exceptionally talented students and diagnosing them
  • the possibility of strategic integration into the research networks of the Faculty of Biology and the Bielefeld School of Education.

In addition, we would welcome the following qualifications:

  • networking with regional schools and educational institutions
  • experience with marine biology excursions
  • experience in managing a university zoo and training zoo keepers.

The professor will be involved at all levels of the didactic training of students of educational biology, qualifying for teaching positions at primary school, secondary and comprehensive schools (Sekundarstufe I), as well as high schools and comprehensive schools (Sekundarstufe II). The language of instruction is German.

Formal preconditions for employment according to § 36 HG NRW are a university degree in a pertinent subject, special ability for scientific work, to be proven by quality of the doctorate, educational aptitude which is proven by appropriate previous training or, in exceptional cases, determined in the appointment process, as well as additional scientific achievements, which are to be assessed exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment process.

An internal application is expected.

The Osthushenrich Foundation intends to support the professorship as an endowed professorship.
