The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill a

Professorship for Translational Precision Diagnostics (W2)

at the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Campus Klinikum Lippe as soon as possible. The position is associated with a senior physician position at the Institute of Diagnostic und Interventional Radiology.

The Medical School OWL and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe, are a young and innovative medical location under development. We are seeking individuals who embrace this development process as an opportunity to actively create and shape research, teaching, patient care, and organization in collaboration with us. You will be significantly involved in implementing our model study program in human medicine and can contribute innovative ideas for teaching. Our career and research support programs, aimed at interdisciplinary cooperation, provide a wide range of development opportunities. At the same time, we offer you the unique opportunity to contribute in shaping the research profile “Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses”.

Qualifications required for the position include: 

  • specialist qualification for Radiology
  • relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • excellent scientific achievements demonstrated through publications experience in project
  • management and successful acquisition of (competitive) third-party funding
  • broad clinical experience in diagnostic radiology and leadership experience
  • experience in translational and/or experimental imaging research
  • compatibility with the research profile of the Medical School OWL 
  • substantial expertise in innovative teaching methods in the relevant field 
  • active participation in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists 

The Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology provides the full spectrum of radiological services at its two locations in Detmold and Lemgo. 
The Institute is establishing an academic centre for diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapy in OWL, with a scientific focus on integrated diagnostics, personalised precision diagnostics and translational imaging research. A laboratory for translational and experimental imaging is currently being established on campus of the Medical School OWL. In addition, scientifically qualified clinical sections are being established at the Institute of Diagnostics and Interventional Radiology as part of the expansion of the UK OWL. 
Within these sections, which will to be located in a modern, clinical radiology, individual specialisations are possible and desirable in order to enhance the institute’s performance profile and continuously improve its medical quality. 

As part of the advertised professorship, a scientific focus on translational precision diagnostics is to be established at the Medical School OWL. The faculty and university's focus areas offer linking points in this respect, such as the further development of experimental imaging methods in basic 2 research and clinical translation, the use of multiparametric or target-specific imaging and the support of clinical therapy studies. In addition, the role of radiology in complex, multimodal therapy concepts, such as patient selection or therapy monitoring, can be investigated in the network of clinics of the UK OWL and in collaboration with the academic practice network. 
We expect close collaboration – particularly within the framework of profile-building collaborative projects – with other departments of the UMC OWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community (private practices) in the region. Therefore, we are seeking an individual with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field, along with excellent communication and coordination skills.

The appointment requirements are governed by § 36 HG. The duties within the scope of clinical care are regulated by a contract with Klinikum Lippe.
