Review procedure: transparency and equal opportunity

The BGHS selects candidates for the advertised scholarships using its tried and tested gender- and diversity-friendly application procedure, which guarantees a transparent and fair process and strengthens the diversity of the BGHS community. The structured and partly anonymous procedure takes place in five steps:

Review of the application documents for completeness and thematic fit by the BGHS office,
Expert review of the anonymised project description according to uniform criteria by lecturers of the Faculty of Sociology, the Department of History or by external scholars,
Selection and invitation of applicants to a personal interview by the interdisciplinary selection committee on the basis of the project descriptions and reviews,
Conducting the interviews by the selection committee,
Decision on the nomination of the candidates to the DAAD by the BGHS executive board.

Doctoral scholarships within the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship (GSSP) follow a two-stage procedure. First, the BGHS will select suitable doctoral candidates for two DAAD scholarships, who will then submit their applications to the DAAD. Second, the DAAD will award and administer the scholarships.
