Three levels of interprofessionality are anchored in the Bielefeld Medical Curriculum (BiMediC), which are used both independently and in combination - interprofessionality through
(1 ) Interprofessionally relevant content,
(2 ) representatives of different professions and
(3 ) the joint learning of students and trainees from different healthcare professions.
We understand the courses in which students from different professions come together as interprofessional teaching.
Based on the CAIPE definition (Statement of Purpose CAIPE 2016), we see interprofessional teaching and learning as an opportunity for members, students and/or trainees from two or more professions to learn with, from and about each other in order to improve collaboration and the quality of healthcare.
Interprofessional teaching at BiMediC prepares trainee doctors to master the challenges of professional practice and supports the development of cooperative and collaborative skills.
Interprofessional courses are an integral part of the Bielefeld medical curriculum throughout the entire course of study. In addition to the profession-specific competences, we would like to enable medical students to develop joint and interprofessional competences with students from other healthcare professions in four areas of competence in the longitudinal interprofessional courses.
A large number of experts from different professions and educational institutions are involved in the development of interprofessional events and formats in the Bielefeld medical curriculum. There are now several interprofessional courses anchored in the curriculum. Further events are being planned for the coming semesters.
