After your registration has been processed, the thesis and the deadline for submission will be created in the examination administration. You will also receive a written confirmation with all information by post. The processing time may take 2 - 3 working days plus postage.

If you submit your thesis digitally, i.e. by e-mail attachment to the Psychology Examination Office, we require a copy bound with adhesive binding. Please submit your calculations (matrix, SPSS etc.) only directly to your supervisor.

If you do not submit your thesis digitally - only in printed form - we require three adhesive-bound copies. Please do not enclose any data carriers with the bound theses for the examination office (these may not be accepted by the examination office), but submit the corresponding data carrier separately directly to your supervisor if submission is required.

As a rule, the thesis should be assessed by the examiners of the Department of Psychology. In justified individual cases, this may be deviated from.

Before registering the thesis, an informal application must be submitted to the chairperson of the examination board via the examination office.

The application contains

  • a brief description of the topic
  • the reasons why the external supervisor should be chosen
  • the confirmation of the external supervisor
  • Proof of the external supervisor's qualifications (at least a Master's degree or diploma in psychology)
  • Confirmation from the second supervisor that he/she will carry out the second internal evaluation.

The second examiner must be an examiner from the Department of Psychology.

When choosing a supervisor, please bear in mind that the university has no influence on the external supervisor. Therefore, if the supervision becomes problematic, you will be at a disadvantage.

The application is decided by the chairperson of the examination board.

Extension of deadline and compensation for disadvantages

The application for an extension of the deadline due to illness-related, medically certified inability to take the examination must be submitted to the Examinations Office immediately and in writing (also by e-mail to the Examinations Office, pruefungsamt-psychologie(at)uni-bielefeld.de) together with the relevant evidence. The form to be filled in by the doctor can be found here.

Immediately means "without culpable hesitation". This means that the application for an extension must normally reach the Examinations Office within three days (not working days) of the reason becoming known. If the evidence is not yet available through no fault of your own, this must be pointed out in the application for extension. They must then be submitted to the Examinations Office as soon as possible.

Simply sending the certificate of incapacity for work is not sufficient.

The chairperson of the examination board decides on the extension of the deadline. Your examiner will be informed of the changed submission date.
