Computer scientist Prof. Dr. Barbara Hammer from Bielefeld University and three other European researchers investigate how to guarantee drinking water supplies with artificial intelligence in the project "Smart Water Futures: Designing the Next Generation of Urban Drinking Water Systems" (Water Futures). The project is funded by the ERC as a Synergy Grant.

How can normativity be explained from a philosophical perspective? In the context of this question, a multidisciplinary research group led by Prof. Dr. Benjamin Kiesewetter from the Faculty of Philosophy is investigating the normative core concept of reason in the project "REASONS F1RST - The Structure of Normativity". What are the consequences of passive commuting on the health and well-being of commuters and their family members? In the "COMFAM" project at the Faculty of Health Sciences, a working group led by Prof Dr Anna Oksuzyan is investigating the effects of passive commuting on different social groups. How does people's living environment influence their health and mortality? A team led by Prof Kayvan Bozorgmehr at Bielefeld’s School of Public Health is investigating this aspect in the "INTERSECT" project. Combined with innovative analyses, it uses data on contingent refugees with assigned places of residence. The ERC is funding the project with a Consolidator Grant.

In her "FinancialLives" project, Professor Dr Minh Nguyen is investigating how the everyday lives of workers in countries such as China, Vietnam and Laos are increasingly subject to the logic of financial markets. The project builds on her ERC Starting Grant project "WelfareStruggles". The ERC is funding the project with the Consolidator Grant.

In his "FAIRGAP" project, Professor Dr Carsten Sauer looks at the mechanisms behind the gender pay gap in Europe. He is investigating the question of why women often earn less than men, despite efforts to eliminate this inequality. The ERC is funding the project with a Consolidator Grant.
