Around 120 international guest students are making their way to Bielefeld every year to participate in the German Summer Courses at Bielefeld University for four weeks. Beside the daily German course the students get to know the country and people through technical language projects and excursions. Such an adventure would not be possible without host families.

Everyone can be a host family: Couples with or without children, single parents, same-sex couples, pensioners, single homes or shared flats. There are numerous reasons to become a host family. Just to mention a few:

Strengthen awareness for tolerance and openness

The next summer courses will take place from:

05.08. - 29.08.2025

If you feel approached now, there will be a few questions to be answered.

Are the host families getting paid?: The time period is terminated to not more than four weeks, for which host families get paid 300 €. A caution from 50 € will be deposited. In most of the cases the students provide themselves with food. In some cases we will find a special arrangement.
What kind of accommodation is needed?: The host family provides a single or more rooms. If you are hosting more than one student, you will have to make sure that both of them have their own room. The room should be provided with a basic of interior (bed, desk, wardrobe). Also, it is important that the guest has access to a bathroom and a kitchen
When and how are the guest students getting here?: In most cases the guest students are coming to us via plane. The arrival and departure day will be planned within the coordination of the Bielefeld University.
How are the guest students insured?: The guest students are provided with health, liability and accident insurance through the DAAD or got an own health insurance beforehand.
Are we/ Am I suitable as a host family?: In general, an open door and a warm welcome in your own living space is all you need. Because of our grand offers in addition to the German Courses you do not have to feel obligated to provide your guest with any further activities. We would like that the time will be a great experience as much as for you as for your guest. Therefore, we try to find the perfect match for you with detailed questionnaires, which you and our guest students fill out beforehand.
