Doctoral and Postdoc Advice

At the Graduate Centre, we are available to all doctoral candidates, doctoral researchers and postdocs at Bielefeld University. We are happy to offer advice on a wide range of topics. Be it concerns in the here and now (decisions to be made; situations or application procedures for which you would like to prepare); be it the first or next steps as a doctoral candidate or postdoc; or be it the strategic planning of the entire doctoral or postdoc phase: We are happy to support you in a personal conversation.

Events

Our events offer orientation, collegial exchange and practical support for all those who are embarking on the path to a doctorate or are already in the middle of it. These include, among others:

• "Good to know. Onboarding for researchers at Bielefeld University" - with information on starting out in teaching and research as well as on existing infrastructures, counselling and training opportunities.
• "It's great to have you. Welcome event for doctoral researchers" - offers the opportunity to talk to doctoral researchers who have all only been enrolled for a few months at Bielefeld University.
• "The first steps towards the PhD. Techniques to organize your doctorate" - a workshop in which doctoral candidates can reflect on their goals, framework conditions and next steps.
• "PhD-PeerCircle " - a cross-faculty exchange format that supports doctoral candidates with the challenges of everyday doctoral life and establishes an interdisciplinary network.
• "Doctoral Researchers' Day - a day all about the doctorate" - with information, insights and networking opportunities for all doctoral researchers and those interested in doing a doctorate.

Mentoring programme movement

The movement mentoring programme is aimed at female students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at Bielefeld University in 3 funding lines. It offers coordinated programme modules and protected framework conditions for individually tailored career development. Participants sharpen their focus on personal priorities and develop sustainable perspectives and action strategies for a self-confident future.

PEP workshops

Bielefeld University's Personnel Development Programme for Researchers and Teaching Staff (PEP) offers a diverse, interdisciplinary programme free of charge for participants to help you prepare for current and future professional challenges. Here you have the opportunity to strengthen and expand your skills in a targeted manner in order to promote both your professional career and your personal development. Bielefeld Young Talent Fund (BNF)

Students preparing for a doctorate, doctoral candidates in the final phase of their doctorate and postdocs can apply for the various measures of the Bielefeld Young Talent Fund. The Bielefeld Young Talent Fund is divided into two different funding lines with a total of five different funding programmes.
