The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Children’s Center of the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL) at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (CBB) a

Professorship for Pediatric Pneumology and Allergology (W2)

at the earliest possible date. Thereby associated is the position as Senior Physician. Further development opportunities exist to become a Senior Departmental Physician and Deputy Director at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe (UMC EWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases". The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • specialist qualification for pediatrics and adolescent medicine (pediatrics)
  • (largely) completed additional designation in pediatric pneumology and/ or allergology
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad clinical experience in the areas of pediatric pneumology and/ or allergology
  • experience in planning, managing and conducting clinical studies
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable:

  • broad clinical experience in the area of infectiology
  • participation in national and international societies or committees

The advertised position is located at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (https://evkb.de/kliniken-zentren/kinder-jugendliche/kinder-und-jugendmedizin/ueber-uns/). The spectrum of the department includes pediatrics in its entire breadth. The department is part of the Bethel Children’s Center, which further comprises with specialized outpatient divisions the clinics of pediatric and adolescent surgery, child and adolescent psychiatry as well as the devisions of pediatric radiology, pediatric anesthesiology and the interdisciplinary pediatric emergency room. The department also provides medical supervision to the Bethel Children’s Hospice.

Clinical research is to be developed and implemented within the framework of a structural and development concept for the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine that will be created with your participation. As the holder of this position, you will play a key role in the establishment and management of the clinical study center in pediatrics as well as the pediatric lung center and the allergy center at the UMC OWL. Furthermore, you will represent the focus of pediatric pneumology including inpatient diagnostics and therapy.
In addition to scientific questions on allergic diseases, the professorship will address topics of health care research. Further focus of research is the investigation of the underlying mechanisms of severe asthma as well as the identification of key factors and processes in the chronification of diseases.

Networking with the other clinics of the University Medical Center OWL, with other faculties of Bielefeld University and with the medical community in private practice in the region is also expected. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with first leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
