Our aims

We make sure that international students feel comfortable in Bielefeld.To this end, we have made it our aim to

  • support international students and visiting academics in integrating into Bielefeld University, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI), and the city of Bielefeld,
  • support international students financially during their studies or in emergencies,
  • promote relationships between international students and visiting academics and the people and companies in the region,
  • provide international students and graduates with insights into regional companies and, together with the university's and HSBI's Career Services, highlight career prospects

Data protection

ViSiB (Registered Association to Support International Students in Bielefeld) collects, stores and uses personal data of its members exclusively as part of their membership. In case of entry in the association, the following data are collected:

  • Last name, first name,
  • Street, house number
  • Zip code, city
  • Telephone number
  • E-Mail address
  • Amount of the contribution

This data is used for invitations to association events and for internal association purposes (e.g. written membership directory, sending association information). Access to personal data is granted to the executive board, the administrative office and its employees, and the respective IT service provider. The data will be blocked after termination of membership and deleted after expiry of the statutory retention period for business documents.

The collection and processing of data is necessary for the fulfilment of the above-mentioned purpose and is based on Article 6 paragraph 1a, 1b and 1f of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data will not be passed on to third parties. The data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was processed.

You have the right to object to the use of your data for the above-mentioned purposes at any time, either in whole or in part. You are also entitled to request information about the data we have stored about you and, if the data is incorrect, to request that it be corrected or, if the data storage is inadmissible, to request that it be deleted. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority.
