Programme

The goal of the structured doctoral programme is to deal with methodological and theoretical questions concerning one’s own research project and to deal with scientific issues that go beyond one’s own project.

The nature and scope of the study programme is designed in such a way that it can be completed in parallel with the doctoral researcher’s own research work and can be flexibly adapted to individual interests. It comprises German- and English-language courses, which are offered by the academic staff of the two participating faculties as well as guest lecturers. An overview of the courses is provided in the eKVV.

The curriculum consists of a mandatory and an optional part.

 

Compulsory Programme

The compulsory programme comprises academic courses and workshops in the area of transferable skills, which are generally completed at Bielefeld University. In the compulsory programme, at least four Research Classes, at least one Theory Class and at least one Methods Class as well as two to four workshops in the area of Transferable Skills with a total duration of at least four full days must be completed.

 

Optional Programme

In the optional programme, other courses at Bielefeld University can be attended, such as colloquia, seminars and study groups. In addition, academic work such as conference presentations, teaching a class or organising a workshop are also recognized

The optional programme also offers BGHS-specific formats: the Research Retreat, the Interdisciplinary Colloquium (organised by doctoral researchers) and the Interdisciplinary Seminar (jointly organised by professors and doctoral researchers).
