  • Request for leave of absence - Students can take time off from their studies for an important reason. A disability or a chronic illness can constitute such an important reason (here you will find the application form).
  • Sample of a BEM letter - BEM stands for Betriebliches Eingliederungsmanagement (occupational integration management). It must be offered by the employer to employees who have been unable to work for at least 42 days within 12 months.

Legal / Guidelines

  • The basis of all legal requirements are the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
  • With the BITV 2.0, der Barrierefreien Informationstechnikverordnung des Bundes, there is basically a set of rules for Germany that almost completely corresponds to the minimum standards of the Directive. The minimum standard according to Article 6 of the Directive corresponds to WCAG 2.1 Level AA of June 2018.- gesetze-im-internet.de
  • European Accessibility Act - On the 28. June 2019 the European Accessibility Act - EAA law enters into force. The EAA aims to improve the functioning of the internal market for accessible products and services by removing barriers created by different rules in member states. The Directive is to be transposed into national law by 28 June 2022 and must be applied - with exceptions - from 28 July 2025 onwards.

  • The Web Disability Simulator is a Google Chrome extension that simulates how users with impairments may experience a website. The simulator creates an experience that gives a better understanding of the importance of web accessibility.
