Switch to main content of the section

The ZAB workrooms are exclusively reserved for students with disabilities, chronic or mental illnesses.

Times of use and booking

The ZAB workrooms can be used daily from 8:00 to 22:00.

For this purpose, students book the times during which they would like to use the room on a binding basis. The booking can be made one week in advance.

The approval of the ZAB-workrooms is only possible with a token!

For many students, their own home is a suitable place to prepare for exams or work on coursework. Some students prefer a neutral environment outside of their home for self-structuring, are dependent on technical aids or require a particularly distraction-free environment for concentrated preparation and follow-up of study content.

The ZAB supports independent study for students with disabilities, chronic or mental illnesses who are dependent on assistive technologies or a particularly low-stimulus environment due to their disability. To this end, the ZAB operates two workrooms with student workstations.

If required, the rooms can also be used for examinations as part of a compensation for disadvantages.

Registration as a user

Students with disabilities, chronic or mental illness who would like to use one of the ZAB workspaces, please contact zab@uni-bielefeld.de to clarify the authorization for use as well as the individual needs, e.g. for technical support.

After confirmed usage authorization, students sign a usage agreement and receive a token for approval to use the respective workspace. If required, students are instructed in the use of assistive technologies in the Louis Braille room.

Rules of use and hygiene

Please leave the workrooms clean and tidy at all times.

Eating is prohibited in the rooms. If students are dependent on regular food intake for medical reasons such as diabetes, we ask that snacks be selected and packed in such a way that other users are not disturbed if possible and that no food remains in the room.

You are allowed to drink something in the rooms. Due to the technical equipment, no open drinks may be taken into the rooms. Water bottles with sports caps or other containers that can be resealed directly are permitted.

Regarding the applicable hygiene rules, please inform yourself about the current regulations at the university before booking.

Additional rules of use for the Theresia Degener Room:

All users agree to refrain from using synthetic fragrances such as perfumes, hairspray, aftershaves or strong-smelling cosmetics, etc. on the day of use.

In addition, cell phones must be switched to silent during the usage period.

Exams

Students with disabilities, chronic or mental illness can also take examinations in the workrooms within the framework of Disadvantage compensation. Room reservations for exams should be made as early as possible at zab@uni-bielefeld.de, but no later than two weeks before the exam date. In case of late reservation, the use of the room cannot be guaranteed.

Equipment

All workstations are ergonomically designed and equipped with task lights. In addition, a limited number of roll containers are available, which can be used after consultation to store personal work materials and aids.

Disinfection dispensers are also provided in each room.

There is currently no printing facility.

Theresia Degener Room (UHG B1-243)

This room is available to students who require a stimulus-reduced working environment. It is equipped with partitions to reduce noise and is intended exclusively for individual quiet work. Five workstations are available.

With the additional rules of use, we would like to make it possible to reduce stimuli within the workroom as much as possible in order to make working there as pleasant as possible for all students. For example, autistic students or students with some mental illnesses are dependent on a low-stimulus environment. Allergy sufferers also benefit from an environment that is as allergen-free as possible.

Louis Braille Room (UHG B1-241)

This room is equipped with assistive technologies and provides workstations for the blind and visually impaired. It can be used by students with appropriate needs and their assistants.

The technical equipment of the rooms is regularly maintained and kept up to date.
