In order to create a comparable study and examination environment between students with and without a disability/chronic illness, it is possible to receive compensation for disadvantages if a student has an existing disability or an illness-related study impairment.
Depending on the disability or illness, this compensation can be granted, for example, in the form of an extension to the writing time for an exam or term paper, the provision of assistive devices or similar.
People with disabilities and chronic illnesses have the right to compensation for disadvantages in fulfilling academic requirements that result from their disability or chronic illness. In doing so, the principles of compensation for disadvantages must always be weighed up against those of equal treatment. Such decisions are made by the examination offices.
Corresponding regulations can be found in all study and examination regulations of Bielefeld University.
