About the working group

Under the direction of Prof Sabine Oertelt-Prigione, MD, the working group is dedicated to gender-sensitive medicine.

The gender of the patient influences both the symptoms of an illness and the effectiveness of medication. We know that the same disease can progress differently in women and men. However, these differences cannot simply be attributed to differences in body size, but have a more far-reaching background. Not only biological factors play a role, but also gender-specific differences in health behaviour. It is therefore of central importance to take gender aspects into account for individualised diagnosis and treatment.

For this reason, the working group not only works on research projects that take into account gender-sensitive aspects in medicine, but also on the implementation of gender-sensitive content in the curriculum and is in close dialogue with many clinical disciplines.

The focal points include the development of methods for analysing "gender" (sex and gender) in clinical studies, the implementation of gender-sensitive approaches in everyday clinical practice and in prevention and the development of innovative teaching concepts for gender-sensitive medicine.
