Focus areas

Our work is driven by a diverse team that brings together academic expertise and lived experience.
Over 40 researchers from nine different faculties (research areas) – including medicine, engineering, psychology, education, sociology (social research), philosophy, as well as linguistics (language science), literary studies and health sciences – collaborate closely with self-advocacy groups. What brings us together is a shared mission: to develop new technologies that genuinely improve the everyday lives of people with cognitive (mental) disabilities.

This creates a research environment where diverse perspectives come together – and where inclusive (everyone can participate), innovative (new) solutions can take shape.

Vision

AI*IM is a unique initiative in the (inter)national academic (research) landscape.
It helps shape the university as a social space where people of all backgrounds and abilities meet as equals - and where assistive technologies are used to balance out individual functional impairments.

The members and projects of AI*IM are organised in various working groups in which central issues are explored in depth and worked on together. Existing and planned working groups are
