Things to know for new teaching staff
Colleagues with special rights to enter courses create them in the eKVV. Who is responsible for maintaining and entering the data in the various faculties can be found on this page in the eKVV (see "Contact persons for corrections and room bookings"). All events in the eKVV are published sorted by degree programme and are visible worldwide. The eKVV is thus an important part of the University's external presentation.
Students can find the courses offered in their degree programme and add the courses they wish to attend in the coming semester to their timetable. Once they are included in the timetable, they are written on the attendance list for the course.
Teachers have access to the courses assigned to them and can, among other things, view attendance lists, use mailing lists, publish comments on the course and report achievements for examination management. An overview of the functions can be found on this help page.
Courses may be subject to attendance restrictions for didactic or organisational reasons. These restrictions on participation must be coordinated within the faculty and approved by the dean of studies so that sufficient capacity for alternative courses can be ensured. In order to allocate students to equivalent courses, place allocation procedures can take place before the start of the semester, which are carried out by colleagues with special rights in eKVV management. The results of the allocation procedures can then be found in the attendance lists for the courses in eKVV.
Course planning includes planning the content and quantity of the courses offered for each semester and for each degree programme, publishing the courses in the university's course catalogue "eKVV" and booking rooms for courses.
These planning processes are handled differently in the individual faculties sometimes. If you have questions about specific steps in your faculty, it is best to contact your Dean of Studies:
However, some steps in the planning of courses are carried out jointly throughout the university. The corresponding dates and deadlines are published in the curriculum planning calendar.
When courses are assigned to modules, the eKVV specifies the forms of course performance in accordance to the module handbook. Lecturers can only assess students' performance within the framework of these "subject assignments" and enter these in the eKVV for each student. The examination and / or study requirements reported in this way are transferred in the system to the responsible examination office, which checks them and then books them. Once the credit has been posted, it is published in the student's transcript.

The study information pages are the central source of information for applicants, students, lecturers, examination offices and generally all people who need information about the degree programmes at Bielefeld University. All degree programmes are displayed there with their examination regulations, module handbooks, contact persons and combination options in a database. The study information is the publicly visible representation of the study programme modelling (i.e. representation of the study regulations) All technical applications (such as eKVV and examination administration) access the same database, which guarantees a high degree of reliability of information).
