Internships

The PunktUm project offers international students at Bielefeld University who have passed a language examination (Test-DaF, DSH etc.) language learning programmes for academic work and writing in German as a foreign language.

What is the scope of the internship?

  • 150 hours
  • Usually during the semester
  • Also during the lecture-free period

What are your tasks?

  • Work shadowing in selected courses in the field of academic language
  • Team teaching or independent teaching in one of these programmes
  • Assisting with the preparation and follow-up of lessons
  • Error correction and feedback
  • If necessary, development of new teaching or exercise materials
  • Internship report

What qualifications do you need?

  • You are enrolled on a master's course at Bielefeld University
  • Preferably core or minor subject German as a foreign language
  • Basic knowledge in the field of specialised language linguistics
  • Interest in teaching German as a foreign language in the field of academic language/scientific writing
  • Teaching experience in the field of German as a foreign language
  • Own academic writing experience
  • Interest in supervising international students

The PunktUm project offers international students on English and foreign language degree programmes as well as doctoral students, postdocs and other employees of Bielefeld University general German language courses at levels A-C1 of the GeR. The aim is to ensure the integration of international university members on a linguistic and social level. Language conventions in the university and everyday context as well as knowledge of university structures with a focus on support and cultural programmes are therefore taught.

  • Also during the lecture-free period

What tasks do you take on?

  • Work shadowing at the various levels
  • Team teaching or independent teaching in a selected programme
  • Assisting with the preparation and follow-up of lessons

  • If necessary, development of new teaching or exercise materials

What qualifications do you need?

  • You are enrolled on a Bachelor's or Master's course at Bielefeld University
  • Preferably core or minor subject German as a foreign language in an advanced semester
  • Interest in teaching German as a foreign language at universities
  • Interest in supervising international doctoral candidates

PunktUm and the International Office have been organising summer German courses for international students and graduates since 2014. The four-week courses offer an expansion of general German language skills at all levels as well as an insight into specialised teaching through subject-specific project work in law, mechatronics, business studies, regional studies and German academic language.

What is the scope of the internship?

  • At least 150 hours
  • Period: 1 July to 1 September
  • It is possible to start earlier to help with the organisation

What tasks will you take on?

1. organisation

If you start in January:

  • Answering requests for participation, support in finding/supervising host families, organisational activities

and from July:

  • Organisation of arrival and departure
  • Supervision of students on the day of arrival
  • Management of the summer university office (at least once a week)
  • Support with the organisation of the graduation ceremony

2. regional studies/language didactic working groups (DaF practice)

  • Leading at least two regional studies and/or language didactic working groups per week (each lasting approx. two hours in the afternoon or evening; possible topics: Pronunciation, grammar training, theatre/scenic play, German food, football, German film, etc.)
  • The AGs should be tailored to the language skills of the participants (A1/A2, B1/B2, C1)
  • Accompanying the students on excursions

What qualifications do you need?

  • Degree in German as a foreign language, Educational Science or comparable subjects
  • Good knowledge of English, other foreign languages an advantage
  • Organisational talent and enthusiasm
  • Time flexibility
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Reliability
  • Ability to take responsibility for tasks

What do we offer you?

  • Insight into the organisation and management of a university project
  • Gain experience in the planning, preparation and realisation of your own working groups in the areas of German as a foreign language and regional studies
  • Credit as an internship in the corresponding modules of your subject (e.g. in the Bachelor's degree programme German as a Foreign and Second Language in module 23-DAF-M8a (Teaching Practice German as a Foreign/Second Language (incl. profile-related theory-in-practice courses)) or in module 23-DAF-M8b (Cultural Mediation) with 90 hours) if you help with the organisation and preparation.
  • The internship can be honoured depending on the extent and type of cooperation
