Studying healthily and successfully (GesA Stud)

GesA Stud | Bielefeld University

Students face numerous challenges during their academic career that can affect their health and academic success. Over 70% of students experience stress (Karyotaki et al., 2020), and stress-related exhaustion increased from 44% in 2015 to 68% in 2023 (Techniker Krankenkasse, 2023). Persistent stress can affect health (e.g. Gardani et al., 2022; Glaser et al., 2015; Quick et al., 2014) and lead to dropouts (Hjorth et al., 2016).

The project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research "Healthy and successful studying" (GesA Stud) develops low-threshold measures to promote student health and increase academic success. Participants receive an individualised requirement-resource profile and support in implementing recommended measures.

Students throughout Germany can take part in the study and benefit from

  • Individual feedback on requirements and resources
  • Health-promoting measures to increase well-being and academic success
  • Strengthening the role model function for health-promoting behaviour in future professional life
  • Compensation of €30 for full participation and possible vouchers for smaller studies.

Participation is possible throughout Germany and virtually. If you are interested, send a short email to GesA-Stud@tu-braunschweig.de!:)

Research results of the "Bielefeld questionnaire on study conditions and (mental) health"

This research project has generated a comprehensive and meaningful data set from 13 universities within the project period, which enables robust conclusions to be drawn on study conditions and (mental) health and adequately reflects the breadth of the German higher education landscape. The most important results are summarised below.
