sciebo: Migration from ownCloud to Nextcloud

On Thursday, 24 July 2025, sciebo will be migrated to the new Nextcloud platform. A new client / app must then be used. Please follow the instructions below.

Users who only ever use sciebo via a browser do not need to make any changes.

Synchronise data beforehand

Important:
Before the changeover on 24.07.2025, check whether the data on the devices used is fully synchronised.

Desktop client

In the sciebo desktop client under Account, check whether synchronisation is taking place.

  • If there is a green tick, everything is/was fully synchronised.
  • Otherwise, under Activity > Not synchronised, you can display which files are only on the computer but not on the sciebo server.

App

The app for mobile devices allows you to check whether file uploads have failed in the past. To do this, tap on the arrow at the bottom of the toolbar.

Uninstall previous sciebo app/client

Desktop client

Note for employees:
If the computer is managed, please wait until the IT support team offers the new software for provision.
An error message ("The server version is not supported") will then appear on the old client, but it can still be used for the time being.


The software should be reinstalled from 25/07/2025 (one day after the changeover).

  1. Close all files that may still be open via sciebo.
  2. Uninstall the sciebo client from the device.
  3. If required, restart the device.
     

App

From 25.07.2025 (one day after the changeover) a new installation is required.

  1. Close all files that may still be open via sciebo.
  2. Uninstall the sciebo app from the device.
  3. If required, restart the device.

Desktop client

Download and install the new NEXTCLOUD client at https://hochschulcloud.nrw/de/download/ (administration rights are required).

When opening the sciebo app for the first time, select the server address Bielefeld University and click Next.

 

Enter the sciebo login name and the sciebo password here.

Confirm/login with Continue.

 

Make the desired synchronisation settings here.

 

The new client opens.

Instructions for setting up apps

1.

Open the Nextcloud app and go to Login.

Enter the server address

uni-bielefeld.sciebo.de

and go to the ->.

2.

The browser opens. Tap on Log in here.

When using sciebo for the first time, the access data for sciebo must then be entered (login name and password).

Then grant access.

4.

Completion message for the account connection. Now open the Nextcloud app again and use sciebo.
