


Welcome to the Bielefeld IT Service Centre (BITS) of Bielefeld University! We are one of the most modern computer centres in the German university landscape. Numerous experts are at work every day to meet the requirements of around 30,000 users.
Every year, we train IT specialists for system integration and Media Designers in image and sound. On Girls'Day 2026, you will have the opportunity to find out more about training as a media designer and IT specialists:

What does a media designer for image and sound actually do? On Girl's Day, you will gain an exciting insight into the various fields of activity of the appointment, stand behind the camera yourself, light up an interview or make sound recordings in a voice booth. Together with our trainees, you will put together a short studio production during the day, which you can then take home with you as a video clip.

We are the eLearning.media department at the BITS (Bielefeld IT Service Centre) of Bielefeld University. In our Making Media Space, all users of the university can carry out innovative projects and media productions in professionally equipped media rooms and studios, either completely independently or with the support of our trainees. Whether professional video, photo or audio recordings - the range of tasks and projects ending dates is exciting and diverse!

What does the day-to-day work of an IT specialist for system integration look like? Girls' Day gives you the chance to experience this varied appointment up close. You will work on real hardware and assemble a computer from individual parts, develop your first own programme with Scratch and turn a Raspberry Pi into a functioning retro games console. Together with our trainees, you will immerse yourself in the various areas of IT: During a tour of the server room, you will learn how the technical infrastructure of an entire university works and what it takes to keep networks and systems running reliably.
