GenDiMedNet: Network Platform for Sex- and Gender-Sensitive Digital Health Solutions
Digital health solutions that continuously monitor symptoms can alert users and healthcare professionals to early signs of health deterioration. As diseases may present differently in women and men, developers of digital applications should account for sex- and gender-specific differences from the earliest stages of development.
The GenDiMedNet network supports researchers in identifying and integrating sex and gender aspects into the development of health solutions. Through workshops, members learn about sex and gender differences in medicine and collaborate with researchers and future users to develop user-centered digital health strategies. The network also provides guidance about data standardization to facilitate secondary data use, thereby contributing to closing the gender data gap.
In addition, GenDiMedNet fosters exchange and collaboration among researchers and stakeholders, including patients.
The project is funded with €2.11 million by the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) for the period 09/2025–08/2029. It is a collaborative consortium project coordinated by Bielefeld University. Partner institutions include University Medicine Greifswald (Institute for Community Medicine, Department of Medical Informatics), the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) Hamburg, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the Berlin Institute of Health.
