Showcase: The German Non-Fiction Prize 2024

For her book "Tausend Aufbrüche. Die Deutschen und ihre Demokratie seit den 1980er-Jahren", Bielefeld historian Prof. Christina Morina has been awarded the German Non-Fiction Prize 2024. In her work, the Professor of General History examines the recent history of democracy in Germany - beyond the caesura of 1989/90 and from an East-West-integrated perspective. Using personal testimonies, she examines the ideas of democracy held by citizens in East and West since 1980. The jury praised this methodology and analysis as "sophisticated and eye-opening".
