"Data Ghosts" is a single-channel video developed during Erica Shires' fellowship at ZiF. It incorporates images taken with a microscope, alternative photography techniques, 3D LiDAR scans and generative AI. This interplay of art, technology and science is used to explore parallels between the history of photography and the visual language shaped by our rapidly evolving new technologies.

The centrepiece of the exhibition "How Freedom Creates Knowledge" is the Forum of the Historical Museum. What is academic freedom anyway? How were and are researchers restricted in their work? What are the consequences? These questions are addressed using specific historical and contemporary stories. On the other hand, are there also good reasons to restrict the freedom of science? What happens when research contributes to robbing freedom? The exhibition also looks at this perspective. In addition, six external locations shed light on the relationship between science, freedom and society on site and in people's everyday lives.
