Exmatriculation
Upon application, students can exmatriculate and thus terminate their enrolment. Reasons for this can be
After re-enrolment in the coming semester, exmatriculation can only take place at the end of the semester or on the day after the start of the semester. This also means that the semester is counted as a university semester on the certificate of exmatriculation and the certificate of enrolment. Likewise, no more academic achievements may be made after exmatriculation.
If exmatriculation takes place after the start of the semester (but no later than 15 May for the summer semester or 15 November for the winter semester), a refund of the semester fee is only possible if the Uni-Card has not yet been validated for the semester in question.
The application for exmatriculation must be submitted in the application and status portal. Select the "My Studies" tile on the homepage of the Application and Status Portal to access the Student Services area.
There can be various reasons for ex officio exmatriculation, e.g.
Prior to this exmatriculation, the University will send several reminders via the email address provided about the exmatriculation deadlines and the late fee and inform you of the impending exmatriculation.
If you have been officially exmatriculated but wish to remain enrolled, you must contact the Student Office as soon as possible within the deadline for legal remedies (see notification) for clarification.
If you let the deadline for appeal expire, you must reapply for the relevant degree programmes within the applicable deadlines for applications. Examination achievements that you have already completed may be recognised under certain circumstances.

In the application and status portal of Bielefeld University, you can still download your certificate of exmatriculation 6 months after exmatriculation under Student Services > Certificates.
If you were exmatriculated more than 6 months ago, please contact the student office.

If you do not respond to the exmatriculation request and the notification emails, you will be automatically exmatriculated around mid-November (retroactive to 30 September) or around mid-May (retroactive to 31 March).
However, the application for exmatriculation must be submitted in the application and status portal.
The certificate of exmatriculation will be made available to you as confirmation in the service area of the application and status portal. You will find the document under Certificates and can print or download it from there.
You no longer need to be enrolled or re-enrolled for the coming semester to wait for examination results or apply for a certificate. It is important that all examinations have been completed by the end of this semester. However, you can remain enrolled in the semester in which you receive your certificate if you wish.

In the application and status portal, you can apply for a (pro rata) refund of the fee paid via the ≡ Burger menu → "Student Services" → "Payments" tab via the"Refund fees" button.
If you have submitted your enrolment application but have not yet paid any semester fees and do not wish to commence your studies, please send a short message to the Student Office stating your personal details and indicating that you are withdrawing your enrolment. It is not possible to withdraw your enrolment application by telephone.
