Sustainability Fund

Switch to main content of the section

Researchers can now also apply for the sustainability fund.

Applications from students and student initiatives are still welcome, of course.

The Sustainability Fund is aimed at researchers and students.

Students

Are you studying at Bielefeld University or do you belong to a student initiative (registered student association or departmental student representative committee) and are planning a sustainability-related project on the campus of Bielefeld University?

Researchers

Do you have an idea on how to make your research or doctoral project more sustainable in terms of content or form? Would you like to add a sustainable component to your research projects? Would you like to organise the catering for your next project event in a more sustainable way or are you missing a grant to travel by train instead of plane as part of your project?

In any case, "sustainability" is not limited to ecological sustainability, but also includes economic and social aspects.

Target group

Researchers or students

Application period

Applications will be possible again from October 2023.

Goal

Revitalisation of student life with a special focus on sustainability (projects), promotion of sustainability-related projects and initiatives on campus.

Prerequisites

  • All researchers or currently enrolled students / registered student associations / departmental student representative committees at Bielefeld University are eligible to apply.
  • In particular, the following can be sponsored...
    • Events (e.g. fees) and smaller projects related to sustainability on campus.
    • justified rail travel costs (e.g. as part of research projects or final theses on the topic of sustainability, as long as the travel costs do not cover the entire funding amount).
    • other (student) research projects (e.g. BA/MA final projects and other progress projects).
  • Conference costs and associated travel to scientific symposia are excluded from funding; please refer to the University Society's conference grant.
  • The disbursement of funding is subject to the submission of receipts/purchase receipts for expenses incurred as well as a project report on the history and added value of your project in relation to sustainable development on campus (at least one DIN A4 page) no later than four months after receipt of a grant.

Funding amount

The maximum funding amount is usually 300 euros gross once. In individual justified cases, the funding amount may be higher.

Intended use

If funding is granted, the funds are to be used exclusively for the purposes stated in the funding application. A transfer to other purposes is not possible. A short report (one DIN A4 page) on the project and its course is also obligatory. For some selected projects, a publication of the report - with the prior consent of the author - on the sustainability portal (website) is intended.

Procedure

There is no entitlement to funding. The Sustainability Office of Bielefeld University will review the proposals received and make a selection taking into account the financial resources available and the planned projects. Should your project be considered for funding, we will contact you via the university email address. If the funds are approved, the applicant will receive a confirmation of the amount of funds applied for. Funds will be disbursed upon presentation of an appropriate receipt/proof of purchase. If advance payment is required, this can also be agreed. Reimbursement of costs up to the amount of funds approved for your project will only be made if you submit a receipt for the costs you have incurred together with the project report within 4 months of receiving the approval.
