Webspace "Personal Homepage"

BITS provides storage space for each student and employee of the university to create their own websites. Students can use this to gain experience in creating websites or to provide faculty and departments with web content for special projects.

Scope of services

The disk space provided on the web server wwwhomes.uni-bielefeld.de corresponds to the quota of the "Home-LW".

Two directories are available on the web server:

  • docs for documents, graphics and HTML files (readable for all) The entry page (index.html) should also be stored here.
  • cgi for the CGI/PHP scripts (readable only for the owner)

The data can be uploaded to the web server using a SFTP program. Alternatively this can be done via the P-drive. Instructions are available for this.

Options

If CGI/PHP scripts are used, this option must be enabled by support.

The scripts must start with #!/usr/local/cgi-bin/php in the first line and get a 700 permission.

  • BITS account with separate right and password for wwwhomes (login right www.uni-bielefeld.de in BenVw).

    The password is managed via PRISMA (entry Homepage/CMS).

Authorization must be requested by emailing bits@uni-bielefeld.de.

Duty to cooperate

Important:

The responsibility for the content of the web pages is borne by the owner* of the WWW right. Documents or links to pages with racist, sexist or otherwise illegal content are of course not allowed. It is forbidden to use the possibilities of the homepages for commercial purposes or to allow other natural or legal staff, people to store data.
In all other respects, the BITS rules of use apply.
