Internships in science and technology degree programmes require the practical application of theoretical knowledge in technical-experimental, research-related and/or job-related contexts. However, theoretical and practical competencies are often not sufficiently interlinked structurally. The Community of Practice (CoP) MINTconnect therefore aims to improve the theory-practice linkage and to digitally support students in their self-learning processes. This is done in three sub-projects, which are located in three different Faculties.

Collaboration in the Community of Practice

  • Promotion of collaborative self-learning at the interface between theory and (professional or laboratory) practice.
  • Development and exploration of digitally supported formats (e.g. digital learning units, digital assistance system, etc.)
  • Promotion of professionally relevant, digital competencies of students and lecturers
  • Intensive exchange with university teachers of STEM subjects
  • Digital support for science lab practicals (digiPrak 2.0)

    In the Faculty of Technology, a learning assistance system is being further developed as digital support and central administration software for scientific laboratory practicals. This offers the possibility to digitally prepare experiment instructions and to model processes, as well as to digitally assist experiments. The evaluation allows further insights of the work process for students and supervisors. The project goal is to improve the functionality of the assistance system for collaborative, accessible learning and teaching, to strengthen the integration of the existing cloud-based architecture with learning management and authentication services of Bielefeld University, and to create broader applicability and evaluation in courses of different faculties. Opening the modeling function to external parties will also provide a community platform for "executable" lab protocols as OER.
     
  • Mobile integration of students using the example of biomedicine (BioMedMobil)

    The biology project integrates students through hybrid mobile teaching. The use of mobile cameras creates the possibility to accompany practical courses live via video, to integrate students who cannot be on site and to conduct virtual excursions. These possibilities will initially be explored in two courses. In "Molecular Foundations of Diseases" and "Current Topics in Biomedical Research", competencies in particular are to be digitally networked. On the one hand, this will take place within the course through networking among students and collaborative projects of "Digital Pathology" and, on the other hand, outside the course through expert lectures and virtual excursions.
     
  • Learning Workshop Chemistry DidacticsDigital (CD2)

    The Didactics of Chemistry design a digital learning workshop to promote collaborative self-study and classroom-based digital literacy among student teachers of Chemistry. In the course of this event, students develop their own digital learning settings in collaborative project work, which they test and reflect on in their teaching practice at school. The demand-oriented teaching of various competencies for digital presentation or digital simulation and modeling is to be enabled by digital self-learning units, which the students can use collaboratively in project-related self-study. These learning units will be linked in a blended learning format to a seminar in temporal proximity to the practical semester with preparatory training, where the student learning and working process is accompanied by input, exchange and reflection, among other things.
