Sport, a healthy diet and perhaps a good work/study life balance: these are often the first things that spring to mind when it comes to the term "health". However, the concept of health is much broader and structural and individual factors and behaviours can have different effects on a person's health.
We work with a holistic understanding of health, which focuses in particular on mental and social health. Social health, such as social interaction and a sense of belonging, plays a special role here, as it has been identified as a valuable resource and protective factor against health problems. We also want to consider the aspects of future orientation, career prospects, financial security and the meaningfulness of one's own studies, as these also have a not inconsiderable influence on mental well-being and performance (see results of the Bielefeld questionnaire on study conditions and (mental) health).
We underpin our work with current research findings on student health. We can draw on the internal Bielefeld University's internal student and graduate surveythe in-house survey of nationwide universities "Bielefeld questionnaire on study conditions and (mental) health" and publications such as the Techniker Krankenkasse study "How are Germany's students doing?".
On our pages we would like to give you a good overview of all the services and contact points at Bielefeld University and the surrounding area. that can help you to find a balance between yourself and your studies. With the guide you can also find suitable offers and useful information based on your questions. We are also planning events such as the welcome and orientation event "Welcome Back to Campus" at the start of the semester or workshops such as the sensitisation course "Being there for each other - lay helpers in dealing with mental stress", which was carried out together with Diversity.
We meet several times a year in the Student Health Management Working Group (SGM ) to discuss current developments and needs, plan joint activities and network with each other and - crucially for us - to do this with student participation and perspective. University institutions are represented there - such as the Central Student Counselling Service, University Sports Service Bielefeld, the Central Contact Point Barrier-Free, the Diversity Work Area or SKILLS - as well as student university groups, such as representatives from the departmental student representative committees, LiLiGoesMental or the AStA [Student Union].
If you as a student would like to contribute your perspective , have concerns or would like to start joint projects, then please get in touch with us! Teaching staff and employees are also welcome to get in touch with us!
