Scope of services
The network license (floating license, concurrent use license) of software products from the faculties and departments for which the manufacturer has provided a license server are provided with license servers from BITS. The license servers are accessible from the LAN and WLAN of the university. A restriction to certain subnets is not possible. This service can only be provided if the required license server type is compatible with the existing ones. This requires clarification in individual cases.
About: KMS (Key Management Service) - Microsoft
- Windows and Office activation
Depending on the 'Volume Licence Key' (VLK), a corresponding product activation takes place. The Bielefeld University IT Service Centre offers a central 'Key Management Service' (KMS) within the university network for all Microsoft products based on 'Volume Activation 2.0 (VA 2.0). Instead of entering the licence key during installation and then activating the products at Microsoft, you only need to ensure that the university's activation server can be contacted. This currently applies to the following products:
Windows 11 and older
Windows Server 2022 and older
Office 2010 products (Office 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010)
Office 2013 products (Office 2013, Visio 2013 and Project 2013)
Office 2016 products (Office 2016, Visio 2016 and Project 2016)
Office 2019 products (Office 2019, Visio 2019 and Project 2019)Further information:
