In order to use the full range of services offered by the Bielefeld IT Service Centre (BITS), an account is required. The provisioning is different for students and employees (see below).
Depending on the service, different access data (login names and passwords) are required.
An account can have several accounts for the various IT services. The PRISMA central identity management system(https://prisma.uni-bielefeld.de) is used to create and manage accounts.
Enrolment automatically activates approval for the IT services. The BITS login name is used to access the BITS services. The personal user name and the university email address are stored in the PRISMA portal under "My data".
Where can I find my access data for PRISMA?
If you are registering for the first time, you will need a password in addition to your matriculation number. This can be retrieved from the PRISMA portal via the"Reset password" link. The new password will then be sent to the email address that was used for the application.
The combination of matriculation number and password must be used to register on the PRISMA portal in order to change the temporary password sent to you into a personal password.
Enrolment automatically activates approval for the IT services.
BITS-loginname
The BITS login name is used to access the BITS services. The personal user name and the university email address are stored in the PRISMA portal under "My data".
Passwords
If you are registering for the first time, you will need a password in addition to your matriculation number or BITS login name.
An account with the standard accesses for Active Directory (PC login, email), network access (WLAN, VPN) and web authentication is created automatically. Some Faculties also require special authorisations.
Approximately 2 weeks before the start of the contract, new employees will receive an email to the email address provided during the recruitment process. This contains the personal Uni-ID (personal identifier for registration on PRISMA, Bielefeld University's identity management system).
-> All information on the IT onboarding procedure can be found on the separate website.
If you have any questions about setting up or using the account, the respective IT supervisors of the departments and institutions will be happy to help.
-> List of IT supervisors
External users/guests should contact the host faculty/department for an account. The persons to contact there must contact their own IT supervision for the account creation (see Support).
When students and employees leave the university, their account expires after 6 months. This also includes access to the @uni-bielefeld.de email address, including forwarding from this address. Other approvals and authorisations can be withdrawn from the first day without a status.
The activation for the different target groups happens differently, see scope of services.
