Setting up WLAN under Windows 11 (advanced configuration)

If setting up a WLAN connection with the CAT tool (eduroam unibi Sectigo (Windows 11)) does not work, eduroam can be set up manually under Windows.

First, the WLAN adapter must be activated. This searches for available WLAN networks in the vicinity of the mobile device.

Open the Windows 11 Start menu and enter "Control Panel". Then open the control panel.

There you select the item "Network and Internet" .

Now continue with "Network and Sharing Centre" off.

Select"Set up new connection or new network" .

5.

It continues with "Connect manually to a wireless network".

Network name: eduroam

Security type: WPA2-Enterprise

Tick "Start this connection automatically".

Now click on "Change connection settings".

For Security, select the security type: "WPA2-Enterprise" and the encryption type "AES".

For the network authentication method: "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)".

And place a check mark next to "Save your own registration information for each registration for this connection" .

Click on the "Settings" option.

Check the box"Check the identity of the server using certificate verification".

Activate the field "Connect tothe following server:" and enter the following server address:
eduroam.hrz.uni-bielefeld.de.

Select the server certificate required for Bielefeld University by ticking it (USERTrust RSA Certification Authority).

Check "Activate identity protection" and enter anonymous in the field next to it.

Then go to the next window via "Configure ...".

Remove the tick from the properties window and confirm with OK.

Open "Advanced Settings" to enter the login data for the WLAN.

Select "User authentication" as the authentication mode and click "Save credentials".

Enter the following data in the login window:

Username:
-> BITS-Benutzername@uni-bielefeld.de

(NOT the email address max.mustermann@uni-bielefeld.de BUT mmustermann@uni-bielefeld.de)

Password:
-> BITS password (Net password)

Clicking on OK confirms the entries. The other open windows can also be closed by clicking OK.

If the connection to the WLAN is not established automatically, click on eduroam in the WLAN overview.
