Training: IT Specialist System Integration

Every year, the Bielefeld IT Service Center offers two school leavers the opportunity to train as IT specialists for system integration. The project duration is usually three years. In total, BITS trains six apprentices in parallel.

What awaits you, what you should bring with you

If you are interested in training as an IT specialist for system integration at the Bielefeld IT Service Centre (BITS), you must have social skills as well as some formal requirements (at least a secondary school diploma with good grades). Independent work and the ability to integrate into existing teams are just as important as a pronounced interest in computer technology and enthusiasm for innovative technologies.

During the 3-year training program, you will contribute to subject areas by using your own initiative and will receive the necessary support from the respective departments at BITS. Under certain conditions, such as good academic achievements at vocational school, it is possible to shorten the training to 2.5 years. You will attend vocational school once or twice a week at the Carl-Severing-Berufskolleg in Bielefeld.

The way to us

Application:

You can find out whether we are currently offering apprenticeships here.

After the application:

All applicants who meet the formal requirements are put through their paces in a recruitment test. Maths, general knowledge, logical thinking as well as German and English skills are tested in a test lasting several hours.

If you manage to avoid the pitfalls of the recruitment test and the interview, a varied apprenticeship awaits you.

Training content

In the 1st year of training, you will be assigned to the Desktop Services department. There you will learn, among other things:

  • Image and software distribution
  • Ticket processing
  • Setting up a PC workstation
  • Data migration and backup
  • Customer support for user-specific adjustments
  • Printer provision
  • Hardware reordering
  • Error analysis / repair of defective computers
  • Handling of complaints
  • Preparation / support for events (Girlsday, Perspektive Messe)

In the 2nd year of training, the trainees get to know the network department for half a year and are trained in the following topics:

  • Patching/creation of patch orders
  • Configuration of switches (Cisco IOS)
  • Creation and editing of patch orders (CabDoc)
  • Configuration and migration of switches (Cisco IOS, HP)
  • Network basics (protocols, VLANs)
  • Cabling (structuring, cable types)
  • WLAN (standards, AccessPoint configuration)
  • VoIP (Cisco)
  • Security (Firewalls, RADIUS)
  • DNS/DHCP (Bluecat)
  • Network monitoring (HP-IMC)

The second half of the year is spent at MEDiS. This special service for students focuses on data recovery and data restoration from mobile devices.

The 3rd year of training is primarily devoted to exam preparation and focuses on the development of individual projects. After an "eagle flight" through the diverse areas of the department Platforms and Server Services, small projects from the areas such as server operation, storage system, e-mail service, databases, Active Directory or virtual environments are selected by the trainees themselves.

At the end of the training, the IHK final thesis must be completed. You can choose your own exciting topic from the different areas/departments of the previous years of training.

Training allowance

The training allowance is paid in accordance with TVA-L BBiG.

More knowledge - personal training

Internal training courses on various topics are offered regularly at BITS and can be attended at any time. Useful external training courses from selected educational institutions can also be attended as part of the training. The costs are borne by BITS.

In general, it is open to all of our trainees to complete an internship in the private sector during the training period. However, the internship must be organized independently.
