At the same time, do you miss creative approaches in your studies to deal with challenges, problems or questions? Does it always have to be analytical or can it also be intuitive and creative? In the workshop, we will try out creativity as an approach using the example of designing reading situations.

Organised by the teaching staff Demokrat Ramadani and Dr Julia Schweitzer

Democracy is more than parties and elections. It shapes our everyday lives, our interactions - and every subject we study, whether natural sciences, humanities or social sciences.

In the workshop, you can expect short inputs, dialogue in small groups, practical tutorials (in connection with lecture/seminar) and joint reflection. The aim is to understand democracy as a form of society, life and experimentation and to develop concrete ideas to strengthen it in your own context.

Join in - and bring along people you want to be part of it. Together we will try out how change can begin. Sounds good? Then be part of it! Click here for the calendar entry.

The workshop is part of the Ehrentag.de initiative.

CITY CYCLING starts again in 2026! The competition calls for municipalities to cycle as many kilometres as possible in a set 21-day timeframe. These are either tracked manually via Website or automatically via CITY CYCLING-app. But not only do municipalities face off against one another, but also local teams. To support the joint team of Bielefeld University and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, simply select the team “Universität Bielefeld und Hochschule Bielefeld“ in our municipality, hop on your bike and get cycling! Last year our campus’ cyclists managed to ride over 30 thousand kilometres and avoid almost five tons of CO2!

More information on CITY CYCLING in Bielefeld can be found on Bielefeld’s subpage.

Due to climate change, heat grows into an increasing health risk in Germany. However, according to the initiators of the national “Hitzeaktionstag” [heat awareness day], the German public has insufficient knowledge on the dangers of heat as well as about measures on how to protect themselves or others. Besides the city of Bielefeld, Bielefeld University also participates in Hitzeaktionstag.

The health management, AGUS [Work-, Health and Environment Protection of Bielefeld University] and the Sustainability Office offer various join-in activities and information dealing with the topic of heat. In the following weeks, there are also lectures and workshops regarding heat directed at students and employees of Bielefeld University. Further information regarding these offers and registration for the lectures and workshops can be found here. General information on heat protection at Bielefeld University can be found on the heat portal.

Offers during Hitzeaktionstag:

  • Frozen Yoghurt and Smoothies
  • Wheel of Fortune with heat-related Giveaways
  • Exhibition on UV-protective shirts and skin protection for certain occupations
  • Visualisation of climate change since 1850

After a successful first edition last year, the future festival „Think. Feel. Act.“ („Denken. Fühlen. Handeln.“) will take place again this summer. The festival is organised by AG 10 - Migration Pedagogy and Anti-Racist Criticism of the Faculty of Educational Science at Bielefeld University and Welthaus Bielefeld e.V.

This edition is primarily dedicated to the climate crisis and its consequences, such as wars, refugee migration and the increasing acceptance of inhumane policies, as well as the question of how these complex problems can be solved without creating more injustices.

These and other questions will be explored during the festival. Further information can be found here.
