Setting up WLAN under Windows 10 (advanced configuration)

If setting up a WLAN connection with the CAT tool does not work, you can set up eduroam manually.

First, the WLAN adapter must be activated. This searches for available WLAN networks in the vicinity of the mobile device.

1.

First, open the Control Panel.

2.

There you select the item "Network and Sharing Center" to make advanced configurations.

3.

Now continue with "Set upnew connection or network".

4.

Clicking on "Connectto a wireless network manually" starts the advanced configuration.

5.

Network name:
-> eduroam

Security type:
-> WPA2-Enterprise

Encryption type:
-> AES

6.

The "Change connection settings" button is used to enter additional required information.

7.

Switch to the "Security" tab.

8.

To do this, go to the next window via "Settings".

9.

Tick the box"Check the identity of the server using certificate verification."

Activate the field "Connect to the following server:" and enter the following server address:
radius-eduroam.uni-bielefeld.de

Select the server certificate required for Bielefeld University by ticking it (HARICA TLS RSA Root CA 2021). *

Tick "Activate identity protection" and enter bitsuser in the field next to it.
Note: Do not enter your personal username here, but enter it as specified here.

Then go to the next window via "Configure ...".

* If the certificate is not listed, please install first (Download).

10.

Uncheck the property window and confirm with OK.

11.

Open "Advanced settings" to enter the login data for the WLAN.

12.

Select "User authentication" as authentication mode and click "Save credentials".

13.

The following data is entered in the login window:

Username:
-> BITS-Loginname@uni-bielefeld.de

Password:
-> BITS password (Net password)

A click on OK confirms the entries. The other open windows can also be closed by clicking OK.

If the connection to the WLAN is not established automatically, click on eduroam in the WLAN overview.
