Experiences of WELCOME assistants

"I run the PunktUm debating club and really enjoy working with the participants. I have the opportunity to discuss current and exam-relevant topics with the participants and thus prepare them a little for the oral exam. It is always very interesting to engage in cultural dialogue and learn from each other. Working at PunktUm gives me my first experience of teaching, creating lesson plans and teaching materials. The feedback on my performance helps me to constantly improve and reflect. These experiences will certainly be very helpful for my future appointments."

"We, Tina and Natalie, have been working as young teaching staff in the PunktUm team since 2018. We find the lively dialogue and interesting discussions with the participants in class exciting. The lessons also give us the opportunity to apply study content directly in practice and to be part of the exam preparation and realisation. Working in the study preparation programme gives us the chance to use alternative teaching methods, such as audio-visual methods, and therefore expands our didactic repertoire. As multipliers between the support staff and the teaching staff, we also gain experience in team communication and organising meetings. This gives us an additional insight into the administrative structures."

"Working in study preparation for refugee study applications at PunktUm is very varied and exciting. I can gain a lot of experience in the field of German as a second and foreign language. This is particularly helpful for me as I want to become a teacher. In addition to the subject-related content, you also get to know lots of interesting people and their stories."

"I really enjoyed working in the learning workshop/counselling. The participants were always very friendly and eager to help. You immediately realised that it was very important to them and so it was also very important to me to accompany and support them in achieving their goals in the best possible way. I was also able to expand my own language knowledge and gain experience in counselling, which was good preparation for my future appointment."
