Softphone

In addition to the classic, physical telephones on the desk, it is also possible to make calls directly via the computer using the university's central telephony service. This means that the user's own university telephone number can be used regardless of location.

BITS is currently expanding this alternative use and is gradually making it available to various areas of the university.

  • Phone calls via the computer using Cisco Jabber
  • Video calls
  • Encryption

Requirements

Target group

  • All employees with a Windows & Mac IT workstation provided by BITS.
  • Employees in participating Faculties. Please ask the IT Department Assistants whether the Faculty provides the softphone.

Approval

  • PC or laptop managed by BITS (Windows, macOS)
  • Or end device supervised by the IT supervision of participating Faculties
  • UMS account(rufnummer@voip.uni-bielefeld.de+ UMS PIN)
  • headset
  • Internet access
